About Susan Wright Ceramics

Nature based ceramic art, traditional processes, attention to quality, while a contemporary drive of creating something new stretches ways to communicate in my work.

Susan

Due to my love of nature, I am physically and visually exploring the great outdoors.

Through exploration, I find myself the desire to collect and capture that moment, feeling and energy. I contnue to look for opportunities to express nature through my art.

The artist

self

My art work expresses the natural environment that blankets Michigan’s fields, streams, and woodlands.  I enjoy exploring the artistry the great outdoors offers and bringing it into my work. My approach begins by drawing an image from life or memory, forming it into the pliable clay, and capturing the energy I find within life among the trees, plants and water.

My body of work is inspired from the landscapes my life-long homestead in Alma, Michigan and the landscape that connects and surrounds my family farm. I feel blest and fortunate being raised in the country on a small farm where chores, animals, and fields defined who we were as a family.  Through our property you can still find beautiful creeks and private woodlands.

On a leisurely walk or hike I find myself immerged with the energy nature gives: the array of colors, whimsical sounds of wind blowing through the trees or the water flowing down stream over and around pebbles.
